What is a good fuel filter?
I recently bought a 50 year of gas tractor. Lately I've been having problems with solid contaminants in the fuel system. There have been very small pieces of "gunk" or "crud" that get clogged in the carburetor. When it runs bad, I have to remove the carb, take it apart, and then I find some of the crud where the float needle is supposed to seat in the float valve to stop the fuel supply when the bowl is full. I put on a new fuel line (a metal hydraulic brake line) and put a simple fuel filter in the middle of the fuel line. It was a basic lawnmower type of screen filter. One of those red ones that look like a top (the childs toy).
Contaminants are still getting to the carb. What is the finest micron filter that I can put on there? The fuel line is something like 3/16". The fuel flows to the carb with gravity, there is no pump.
Best off calling the manufacturer or asking at a website dedicated to tractors like yours.
