where could I find transatlantic sailors who need crew members?
I'm based in the UK and it has always been my ambition to cross the Atlantic. Mainly for the adventure and so I could look at the clear night sky.
I'm hoping to find a Yacht crossing the atlantic who need extra crew members to share the work and do night shifts but I have no idea where to start searching. Do you know if there are any online services for this? I only want to travel one way because I plan to go backpacking through central/south america.
Any advice would be great.
Theres a local marina just around the corner from me as it happens (Chertsey Meads Marine) but they tend to be mostly long boats and power boats, very few sailing vessels.
I just assumed a couple hours of training would be enough but I guess not from what you said. My safety is a concern so I will take your advice and get some practice in first. thanks
Try Yachting Monthly / Motor Boat and Yachting / Practical Boat Owner Mags, there's three for you to look through, they all have Crew Wanted Adds in them in the back mainly, or take yourself to the south coast where lots of Yachts are and ask around, or put an add in the mags yourself, or look for Delivery companies and pay your dues and go on one heading that way.
