My 7 month Pomeranian is very squirmy. Every time I'm about to put her down after I'm done petting her, she can sense I will put her back down, and leap out of my arms herself! It is dangerous and I can see an accident coming in the future! How can I get her to stop this?!
PS- Other reasons I think my dog is suicidal: We got her a collar. She managed to slightly loosen it and almost CHOKE on it! I saved her life by cutting the collar off (it was a thin crappy one, we got a better leather one now)! Another time, my Dad was cleaning up the yard, and a Standard Poodle walked by. My dog went mad and squeezed half of herself through the fence, but my Dad got her in time just before the Poodle got loose and lunged for my dog's head!! What are your experiences with your dog? I have never heard of a suicidal dog in all of the many decades I have been alive. I have seen dogs who are afraid of heights. Your dog may possibly be afraid of heights.
When you are going to place your Pom back on the floor, you must be absolutely certain that you have a good hold on her so that she can not wiggle free and break her legs or something else. Another idea: You could ONLY ever have her on your lap when you are sitting on the floor. Then she could just step off your lap. If you insist upon the risky behavior of holding the Pom on your lap while you are seated on a chair then put a harness on her and use the harness to help you hold onto her as you place her back on the floor. But be careful because she will try to get free! It is far, far better and safer to hold her on your lap ONLY while you are sitting on the floor, and that's what I recommend.
Many dogs, unfortunately, manage to get their collars stuck in their mouths. I am glad that the new collar is fitted better.
Poms are very territorial and will attack much larger dogs. You must not let your dog do this or she will be killed. Keep her on leash when you go out for a walk, fix the fence so she can't get through it even partway. This doesn't mean the dog is suicidal, only that she is acting like a true Pomeranian!
