How did John Lennon start his involvement with the peace movement in the 60s?
he wrote anthems like "give peace a chance" and "imagine" and staged bed-ins and protests, but what was the FIRST MAJOR STEP he took towards his famous peace & anti-war efforts? Please give your source too if there is one

It was just that a massive movement. He was not unique. The fuel or catalyst for the Beatles change along with thousands of others was LSD and other psychedelics.
You can see the change in their music start with the album Rubber Soul. Then came the Magical Mystery Tour and the final White Album. These three albums show their evolution.
Do not know how to explain it. It just changed ones outlook on life.I was a political activist but dropped out of society to become a hippy, non political, a flower child. We thought we were changing society.
However it didn't take long for us to realize it was all an illusion or delusion. Think most thought his staying in bed with Yono as a protest as bizarre and not effective. Whatever that was them.
However if I had to repeat the experience and sure if John was given the chance we would not hesitate one second. It was an incredible time to live in this spark of history.
