It was medium sized, solid brown in colour, had a very slim beak about an inch long, and it could run like road runner. It was hurt and went to pick it up and it got up and ran down the verandah around the corner and out of the yard in about 20 seconds. It was FAST. I live in south east Queensland. Anyone got any ideas? It was a solid brown, no mottling, almost an olive sheen. It made a screeching noise which is how I knew it was there. It was an adult too, cause it had all its flight feathers. I'm guessing it could probably fly to.
Any ideas what it was?
Oh and obviously I can't take pictures because its gone. And it wasn't there very long either.
Considering I found it being eaten by a cat, I'm pretty sure it was hurt. And it wasn't trying to get me away from a nest, because it was in the verandah, and there are no bird nests in there, and I've never seen this kind of bird before.

My grandma said that it propably wasn't hurt that it was trying to get u away from it's nest so it played like it was hurt so u would go after it. Propably wasn't hurt if it ran away in 20 seconds
