Down Syndrome Advocacy

Why do you answer questions in this category?
I consider myself to be rather unique as I face physical and sensory disabilities and am raising two young adults - one with mental illness & ADD and the other with Down syndrome. This gives me insight into lots of different disabilities. I also have a lot of education and work in the field of disability advocacy. I find it generally relaxing to post here and unwind - to be able to advocate without the high risk most of my advocacy includes.
So why is it that you come here to ask or answer questions about disability issues?
I want to help people understand disabilities better. I want people to hear the perspective of someone who has those disabilities. I want to spread knowledge and awareness about them. I want to help people find correct information or explain confusing information to them, since sometimes things can easily be misunderstood. I want to correct myths, stereotypes and misconceptions about disabilities.
I sometimes also enjoy just being able to talk about things to someone who either understands them or is interested in listening or learning more. I also enjoy reading other people's responses and getting to know different perspectives and different disabilities.
I have a developmental disability, a sensory disability, physical disabilities and mental disorders and I have family members and friends with different disabilites too, so I believe I have a lot of insight to share.
