What do I use on the top of my freshly painted dining room table to avoid water marks from glasses, ect....?
I just painted my wood dining room table black. First I cleaned it, then I used 0000 steel wool, then I used a tack cloth, then I primed with rust-oleum painters touch gray primer/latex, then I used rust-oleum painters touch multi-purpose latex pain - gloss black, now I'm wondering if I did the right steps....and if so....do I need a top coat to prevent water stains from glasses, etc...? We use this table daily with children and family. Any advice would be appreciated as I've never done this before.....thanks!!
Paint doesn't cure completely for 2 to 4 weeks depending on who's brand. Oil based urethane has a yellowish tint to it from the oil and darkens in time but with your table being black I don't think that's a problem BUT you should never put and oil based over a water based (only primers) because there's a chance it could pull the water based finish off this is why I recommend a poly acrylic urethane and as far as stains most floors with urethane on them today is a water based.
