Would french seams work well when sewing velvet to satin?
Would 72 x 19 be a good size for a formal wrap (stole, scarf, shawl).
French seams are typically used when the inside of the garment is unlined... I wouldn't use them for a wrap if the velvet and satin are the outside fabric and lining, respectively, just a plain seam, perhaps
zigzagged along the edges to help cut the fraying down a bit.
And velvet is bulky, which will make french seams bulky.
And personally, I'd prefer a longer and wider wrap -- but fold up a bedsheet to your planned size and wear it around the house for a bit to see if you like it.
Both fabrics can be frustrating to work with -- I'd suggest if you don't have much experience with working with these fabrics, that you might want to pick up a couple of rolls of "Collins Wash A Way Wonder Tape", which is a 1/4" wide double stick fabric tape that can be sewn through. Use this instead of pins and you won't get pinmarks on your finished stole. Use a roller foot.
Remember that the slinkiest, crawliest, stretchiest, or most unstable fabric always goes next to the feed dogs.
