How does an umpire get inducted into the Hall of Fame?
I just found out that there are 8 umpires in the Hall of Fame, so I have to wonder...What criteria is an umpire judged by to merit induction into the Hall of Fame?
Actually he must be nominated through the veteran's committee and only the elite of all time will be voted upon. That is why so few are in Cooperstown.
Basically either their performance, persona, ability and any contributions to the game (Bill Klem for example, invented the inside protector and Al Barlick worked the plate only for a number of seasons - I think i got that right).
