Heart Hockey Sucks
whats the worst hockey call/missed call that changed/could have changed the outcome of a game?

not whole games, there are a ton of those. it seems like the officiating has taken a serious dive especially in the last few years. maybe not calling blatant penalties is just an attempt to open up the game and let the players play and hope it encourages scoring, but i think it would work the other way too. anyway, my worst(being a lifelong sabres fan, not a bandwagon jumper) are obviously no goal1 in 99'(hull knows!) no goal 2 in 00' (flyers suck!-cheating scum team with fans to match), and the hit on drury by ottawa's neil in feb. 07'. what are yours?
ps-extra credit- can anyone think of good soon to be free agent defensemen or good options for a trade(unhappy players?)because the sabres gm is an idiot and thinks its ok to let players go when they are the heart of the team- its ok, you can just strap skates to bums off the street and you'll be ok-not!!! still love em though...just sick of buffalo making players into all-stars and seeing em walk!

There have been MANY over the course of the years, and which is worst will depend on your point of view. The one that sticks in my craw the most is 2-3 years ago in the playoffs when Detroit played Edmonton. Edmonton led the series 3-2, and Detroit took the lead in game 6 late in the third. There was a scramble in front of the Detroit net and suddenly the puck crossed the line. It was obvious that it had been kicked in. They showed the reply 47 times from 13 different angles, and it clearly had been kicked in -- with the complete definition of a "distinct kicking motion." They reviewed it for a month or so (it seemed) - and then called it a goal! Edmonton won the game and the series. I firmly believe that had the right call been made, the Wings would have won the game (they were leading with a few minutes left) and had a good shot of winning the last game at home and moving on.

Now -- don't misunderstand my point. I am not saying they were cheated or anything like that. The way I see it, if a team puts itself in the position where one bad call can lose the game for them, then they have only themselves to blame. Stuff happens, and the Wings should not have let themselves be in that position.

Still, to this day when I see that play, I cannot fathom how that call was made.

I agree that the Anaheim Holmstrom interference and the San Jose off-the-netting goal were pretty bad, but I guess because of the importance of the game, this bugs me a lot more.
