Heart Baseball Sucks

When will Canada open it's heart to sports other than hockey?
Sports like baseball and basketball. Canadians wonder why Toronto gets all the attention. At least they can hold down their franchises. Vancouver completely failed the grizzlies and Montreal couldn't keep the Expos. These cities should be able to hold down any of these teams. Why do Canadian sports fans suck. I like hockey but its lame that the only canadian teams I can cheer for in the MLB and NBA are the toronto blue jays and toronto raptors.
What killed the Expos was a complex chain of events and situations that would have even killed Keith Richards and cockroaches.Aside from paying out salaries in US dollars while taking in Canadian dollars at a 65% discount the Expos had an owner (Jeff Loria) who actually wanted to be the owner of a different team (Florida Marlins) and had no desire to spend money to retain any of the better players-plus they needed a better ballpark(The Big "Owe") stunk for baseball (really, it did,I've been to several major league ballparks-that was by far the worst.)-of course, still being on the hook for the tab for the "Owe" neither Montreal or Quebec taxpayers in general had any desire to even partially fund a new ball park.It didn't help that MLB commissioner Bud Selig had always wanted to place a franchise in the Washington DC area (for "political" reasons)but no potential owner/ownership group there wanted to pay the expansion fee which meant the only way to get a team there was relocation.
The Grizzlies never really stood a chance-they tried to establish themselves and build a fan base at the same time again while the Canadian dollar was way down-and the 98/99 lockout hurt NBA attendance across the board(until this time the Grizzlies were middle-of-the-pack in attendance-and made money)they dropped to the bottom for the 2 years that followed the lockout. The team's record stunk -mostly because the team wasn't allowed to use all it's cap space for the first 2 years-nor did they have first- round drafting privileges...The NBA has a competitive balance problem generally anyway(teams are either "real good" or "real bad"-there's not much in between-for example-playoff "upsets" are rare compared to other sports.) That's a part of the reason the NBA has a lot of franchise movement.
The bottom line is most pro-sports leagues require a media market of at least 2 million people in the vicinity to even consider expansion-and only 3 Canadian cities really have that. There is the outside chance that the NBA will go back to Vancouver-but that will likely be several years down the road.
