Biker Doin

How do pro bikers breathe while in a long race?
When i go on bike rides and races I sometimes have trouble breathing in a pattern......because i have a habbit whare i clack my teeth together...when im doin tht i dont breathe.
You've actually touched on one of the things that kills the 'common mans' endurance more often that people realize and often goes unnoticed. Athletes are used to fully exerting themselves so it's second nature... when average Joe kicks it up a notch, it's not at all uncommon for the body to start doing things without us fully realizing it. The trick is to practice your basic form and technique outside of those high exertion situations so that it can come more naturally when you hit those situations.
The most common 'hidden' energy killers are breathing and muscle tension. Often times when climbing, novice cyclists will over exert their grip on the bars and tense up their backs and abs... all while running a terribly out of rythm breathing pattern. While it might not sound like much, that little bit will kill your endurance on long rides... especially if their lots of climbs.
Get on your trainer or go to a park or somewhere you can do plenty of 'auto-pilot' laps where you dont need to worry about your surroundings and just ride while focusing on breathing. Get to a nice rythm and then stick with it till you can remember that rythm. Now, take it to a hill where you're going to push yourself. Focus on keeping that rythm that you found... if the tempo increases it's ok but keep your rythm and dont worry about how fast you're pushing up the hill. Once you get your breathing rythm in check start to focus on your technique and only using the muscles you need to use at the moment... relax your hands and arms, shoulders and back, etc...
