I am trying to install a stereo into my 89 beretta gt. Out of the stereo wiring harness, there is a orange and white wire that says illum. I know it is for the dimmer function. The previous radio in it did not have the orange and white wire. Out of the dash, there is an orange wire that was not being used with the other stereo, is it the wire i need to connect the orange and white one to?
yes orange wire is from wiring harness.
when you say out of the dash i assume you mean the harness not a org/wht from the actual car.
in this case yes hook them up but if you're unsure use a multimeter (DMM)!
you don't wanna use test lights because they can draw too much current and damage the vehicle. (most likey not in a 89' beretta but get in the good habit now)
also the org/wht might be a negitive dimmer meaning that when the lights are off you'll see 12v on your DMM and 0v when they are on.
