Taking a bike from L.A to Germany via airplane.?
I moved to Los Angeles in July and am moving to Germany in June 2010. In L.A I didn't have enough money to purchase a car (gas money, insurance, etc.) So I bought a bike. This bike is rather vintage so I would like to take it back to Europe next summer.
Now to my question, what is the best airline to transport the bike for the best price? Or - what are my other options. I live in L.A and am moving to Duesseldorf Germany.

- It's not "super valuable", I bought it for around $225, it's an old peugeot bike. I would just like to keep it because it's a nice bike. (sorry for the confusion)
- I am not so worried with the airline damaging it, I trust them enough.
all airlines are sketchy at best to transport a bike. most airlines also charge $60-100 domestically to ship a bike box because of the larger size. it could be more to europe. now, if you tell them that it is something other then a bike, they won't charge you. the key is to not mention it's a bike. what kind of bike is it? is it even worth taking it? what do you mean by vintage? is it really worth anything or by vintage do you mean old. if you are worried about damage then i would fedex or ups it and not worry about it, but that's not even immune from damage. it's also pricey to ship a box that size overseas. as for a particular airline you would have to call each.
