Who knows why my bedroom and toilet wooden door cannot open/close tightly with ease.?
I always need to pull or push it hard to close or open the door. Anyway to loosen the lock myself or any recommendation?
There are a couple of reasons why a door will not be easy to open or close.
First and most commonly, it is out of square. To check for this, look at the door with it closed... the gap along the top, and down the edge should be even, all the way. If it isn't, it will bind or stick. Options for treatment, include shaving the door, to adjusting the frame. Sometimes, simply using a longer screw thru the top hinge, into the jamb, will help pull it back into place.
Second situation, is where the strike plate is out of adjustment. In this case, the door will swing open and shut, but it will be hard to 'latch'. Often the strike plate can be moved forward just a bit, and it will latch easier. Sometimes, it is necessary to move it up, or down, just a bit, to align it better with the latch. Since you mention the lock, I suspect your door swings ok, but is hard to latch.. so look at the strike plate. (The strike plate is the metal part on the door jamb). Some folks suggest filing the plate...I prefer to simply move it a bit. If you find the screw holes for the plate tend to pull it back into place, a couple of toothpicks inserted into them will help stop that.
