Hi. I love Oakley sunglasses and there other products. They are know for there lenses but in my opinion there lenses aren't that good. They scratch really easy. There frames are kick butt and look mega kick ass but the lenses are not that good. I have a pair of real m frames and the lenses get so scratched on them. My dad has costa del mars and he can take a key to the lenses and they won't scratch. Are Oakley polorized lenses stronger that they won't scratch? Thanks for the help:)
You are correct. TO a certain degree.
Oakley lenses have superior optics AND superior impact protection. However, the proprietary Polycarbonate blend that oakley uses tends to scratch if you drop them on concrete, wipe them with a dirty bag, etc.. especially the coating. The iridium coating on oakley lenses is only a few microns thick so it does scratch easily.
Oakley Polarized leneses are made from the same material and will scratch just as easily. It's all about the lens material. Although both carry ANSI certifications for impact protection, the optics in the oakley lenses are often better than Costa's.
Ever notice the #1 brand of sunglasses in law enforcement, first responders, and the US military is Oakley? There's a reason for that and it has to do with the lenses and the frames.
I have 5 pairs of m frames and will say, but I only really wear one pair on a regular basis as safety glasses in my metal shop. With all that stuff flying around, it was nearly a year before I got my frist scratch. I've subsequently put more scratches in the lenses b/e i wipe them with a dirty dust bag, but that's besides the point.
Costa is a good brand but the optics suffer. So if you're more interested in scratch resistance, you may be looking in the right direction.
