Commercial Airline Pilot? Air Force Academy?
I want to be a pilot. Does anyone recommend the Air Force Academy? Been there? Ummm... How hard is it now to get in?
Also have step-father as a serving Army Staff Sargent. Served in Iraq numerous times. He can nominate?
I would definitely try for the Academy. It is a worthwhile dream to chase, even if you don't succeed. I applied twice. I was not given an appointment the first time, and had one taken away due to a bad grade in my first year of college the second time. I learned many valuable lessons from the application process each time, though. It is definitely worth the try.
Another route you may want to consider is AFROTC at a college. As long as you had good grades/performance in the corps, you would have a good chance at becoming a pilot there as well. I know at Iowa State (my school) we have had most, if not all, of our applicants get pilot slots. You can apply for scholarships from that as well, and the process isn't much different than the academy process, so it isn't much more time consuming.
Either route is a worthwhile goal, but I would definitely go for it.
