Are there any other vets out there who are glad that they got out before the military changed uniforms?
I remember dungarees. I changed once to the Utility Uniform (Navy). I wore the blue shirt proudly....now I am not sure what the heck the Navy is wearing....
And not only the Navy everyone changed their uniforms...I am taking classes at the community college and there is a group of Soldiers taking classes there. They are wearing some new BDU (I don't know what it is called now)...but I was in the National Guard for a little while and we couldn't wear that uniform off post...even the Navy won't let you wear cammies off base...or dungarees for that matter.
I would be too confused what to wear. I like the old-school uniforms....but I'm old school....
Don't get me wrong all the younger men and women look great...and I am proud to pass the torch...but I am glad I don't have to keep up with it anymore....it looks like it got more confusing.

I was one of the last divisions to enter boot camp that were issued the utilities. By the time I left boot camp, we have the new Navy Working Uniforms (NWU), or blue cammies.
New Navy regulations state that with permission from our command, we are permitted to wear our NWUs off base for certain things (ex. grabbing lunch during the work day). The idea with the NWUs is to make the Navy look more "military". Our digital camo design is an exact replica of the Marine Corp's digital camo print, just in blue as opposed to desert or woodland. The NWUs are VERY comfortable as opposed to the utilities and wear much longer.
The other changes are that we no longer have working blues or working whites. Replacing them is the Navy Service Uniform (NSU), or "peanut butters" (called for the khaki blouses). E-7 and above wear a khaki blouse and khaki trousers, while E-6 and below wear a khaki blouse with black trousers. It's a very sharp, easy uniform to maintain.
I hear a rumor that the Navy will be releasing a new dress white uniform in the future. They will take the plain white jumper and give it navy blue piping to shadow the male dress blue uniform's jumper (with white piping).
We also got new PT uniforms. Thank God! The shorts are longer, but not too long. We don't look like thugs, but we are sufficiently covered up, as opposed to the old "silkies". Yikes. Our PT shirts are supposed to be better quality too. Sweat resistant or something high tech... we sweat, but they are comfortable.
As a fairly new sailor, I love the Navy's new look. We now have fewer uniforms to maintain, they are more durable and easier to keep sharp, and our sea bags are more manageable. It is much easier, I assure you!
By the way, the CPO's aviation greens will no longer be authorized for wear. My CPO at my last command would wear his frequently and he always got compliments. Sailors would stop, pivot, and go out of their way to tell him how sharp he looked. I hear they will release another variation, but no verification on that.
