Shade Blinders
A salvage operation, aka a dePollyannization.?

[The original poem is by mtheory, (my mangles are in parens.)]

there is a beautiful place (hell with a friendly face)
that I might one day see (eyes wide and tail bushy)
'neath the shaded space (blinders firmly on my face)
of a never again tree (apples anyone? They are for free!)
and when I retire there (Is SSI at 72 quite fair?)
perhaps a few will know (my rabid fans, all zero.)
that once my chest was bare (scarce, but we split hair)
but then upon it hair did grow (though now it is ingrown, Ow!)

in time we will all someday fade
(Some quicker than others- I jade)
seeking that cool and welcoming shade
(sipping a $2 lemonade)

to rest our once weary souls now forever free
(except for a small tithed entrance fee)
'neath the many leaves of a "never again" tree
(Angel wings $7, holocaust slogans, priceless. Whee!)

I wrote that in as an experiment following one of your comments about simplicity in poetry

I am done trying to find that holy grail of the simple but deep poetic phrasing
