do you think new wave disco will endure its momentum in pop music?
i'm loving the new form of disco in pop music these days. madonna brought back the old sounds of disco tied to the club-type beats on her album which featured her hit singles "hung up" and "sorry". jessica simpson gave us a taste of her disco/early 80s pop on "a public affair" and justin timberlake brought "sexy back" in music with its retro influences. it looks like disco just woke up out of a 25 year coma and is coming back stronger than ever to combine with today's pop music.
so do you think this new wave of disco is going to last or die off to bring in the original sound of pop (aka: vanessa hudgens, paula deanda, danity kane)?
What an interesting question. Being of the period in which you speak, I really don't think in can, or should be, brought back in its original influential effect. Having said that, new interpretations are always welcome, whatever the genre. All music influences each type, from classical to hip hop to rap to rock. Like the great painters and writers it is the medium in which they have to work with that is relevant. What was taking place in the minds of the people during the 70's and 80's is far removed from today's trends, and accordingly the artist interprets in order to fulfill the needs of the modified society. A point in question is "Queen".... great music.... but now we have MCP.... not a copy but the artistic intent is there, ergo a hit with the contemporary youth of today.... if you like that sort of thing.... actually I think there brilliant. But disco revival... sincerely hope not. Hope this helps and Happy new year.
