We've got two equations that we can use here:
Vf = (a)(t) + Vi
Velocity final = acceleration x time + initial velocity
or
1/2(a)(t^2) + (Vi)(t)
1/2 x acceleration x time squared + initial velocity x time
We have deduced from the problem the following:
Viinitial km/h
Vf = 0
a = -305 m/s2
I need to know the thickness of the barrier. How do I deduce this using the aforementioned equations?
the Vi given is in km, make sure you convert to m/s
use the first equation to solve for t 0 = -305t + Vi
the second equation is d=1/2(a)(t^2) + (Vi)(t) that will give you the distance
