Will an 80% cotton 20%polyester sweatshirt shrink?

Just wondering whether an 80/20 cotton/polyester sweatshirt would shrink...and if so can it be prevented at all? it's a pretty good quality sweatshirt woven very tightly however it doesn't say pre-shrunk on it.

Yes, it can shrink. I usually wash my items like this in cold water and lay flat to dry.
