Am I not allowed to use this flag (olive drab subdued flag)?
I just recently purchased a new daypack that has molle compatible straps on it and I also purchased a bdu wallet to add onto the pack. The pack came with a hook and loop olive drab subdued flag. Some guy came up to me and asked if I was active duty to which I answered no not yet (in DEP now). He then proceeded to yell me out that I was not allowed to wear it. I am all for following mil regulations before I actually go to boot but is this some outlandish idea
The military cannot forbid you to do anything if your a civilian. If you are in the DEP program, your recruiter's or any active/retired service member can tell you if you are wearing something wrong or out of regulations. Myself, as an active duty Marine, wouldn't see anything wrong as long as your wearing the issued gear within the regulations, and for motivational purposes. But on the other hand, other active service, or veterans might be offended if a civilian were wearing military issued gear and have never served. Since you are enlisting, and are in the DEP, I think it is fine to wear it IAW (in accordance with ) the prescribed regulations for whichever branch it is.
